The 2ndInternational Conference on Bilingualism in Malta took place between 25-27 March in Valletta, organised by the University of Malta. The conference aimed for an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas with researchers with different backgrounds related to the broad field of bi/multilingualism. EDiTE was represented by researcher Nikolett Szelei who reflected on how multilingualism is shaped in language policies in Portugal, and contrasted it with perspectives drawn from classroom practice in her presentation ´The Portuguese divide: A critical look at how multilingualism is shaped in language policies and classroom practices´. She explored Great Divides in the ´Portuguese as non-mother-tongue language´ policy framework, and proposed alternative ways to conceptualise linguistic diversity in Portugal.
